RESIMAC, a leading non-bank lender operating across Australia and New Zealand, needed to refresh its ageing, siloed data environment. The existing platforms were difficult to change, hard to scale, and no longer fit for the organisation’s strategic direction — especially as data volumes grew and innovation increasingly happened in the cloud.
“We needed insights more quickly, and our heritage platforms couldn’t keep up,” said Steven Mellare, Head of Data and Architecture at RESIMAC. “We also needed a platform that would help us attract and retain engineering talent and position us to deliver on bigger business outcomes.”
RESIMAC partnered with Ignition to deliver a modern, cloud-based data platform — built using Ignition’s Launchpad reference architecture, IRiS for Data Vault automation, and a strong focus on internal enablement.
The Launchpad framework gave RESIMAC the flexibility to combine Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, and Delta tables in a way that suited both their immediate needs and longer-term goals.
“We had the flexibility to choose the right tool for the job,” said Steven. “We used Snowflake for our enterprise Data Vault, Synapse for a big data migration, and Azure integration tools that our team are already familiar with. That just wasn’t possible before.”
A key part of the architecture was the data storefront, which allowed the team to quickly access and integrate data for analytics and prototyping, putting less pressure on the data engineering team.
This approach helped RESIMAC deliver value early while maintaining a strategic, sustainable pace of development.
To support their chosen modelling methodology, RESIMAC used IRiS to generate Data Vault code and simplify the overall delivery process. The tool integrated smoothly with their Azure Data Factory pipelines and helped accelerate implementation.
“Data Vault can be quite intimidating,” Steven said. “IRiS made it fast, scalable and relatively easy to configure. It would have been a lot more daunting without it.”
RESIMAC’s goal from day one was to build internal capability, not long-term dependence on external vendors. Ignition supported this through a combination of hands-on training, detailed documentation, and reusable playbooks.
“Some of the team got hands-on straight away,” Steven explained. “Others came back later and were able to contribute using the playbooks — without needing as much handholding.”
The new platform has delivered strongly against RESIMAC’s original goals:
As Steve puts it: “This project was about delivering speed to insight and enabling business transformation — and that’s exactly what the platform is doing now.”
RESIMAC has already integrated third-party AI products and begun building in-house machine learning models. At the same time, the new architecture has helped reduce delivery pressure by enabling fast prototyping through the data storefront, while supporting strategic modelling and governance in Snowflake.
Beyond those strategic goals, the platform also enabled an unexpected but highly valuable outcome: a large-scale data migration project delivered under tight timeframes and with very few defects.
“That migration wasn’t our original goal, but once we stood up the platform, it made it possible — and we delivered it with very few defects,” Steven said. “It was a significant business outcome, and it helped build confidence in what we could deliver as a data team.”
RESIMAC credits much of the success to the strength of the working relationship with Ignition — from flexibility under pressure to consistent knowledge sharing and support.
“We threw a lot of unplanned work at Ignition, and they handled it with flexibility and professionalism,” Steven said. “They adapted to our ways of working, brought in expertise we didn’t have, and shared knowledge in a way that stuck.”
He also highlighted the collaborative nature of the engagement. “Our engagement manager used to joke that his job was to make me look good — and he absolutely did. Ignition didn’t just deliver outcomes; they made sure we were set up for success.”
